Pirozhki are baked or fried boat shaped buns with a variety of fillings, including ground meat, potatoes, and cabbage. Pirozhki are a popular street food in Russia and Eastern Europe, similar to hot dogs in the United States. They make for great appetizers for brunch or dinner. Usually the dough is made from scratch, but this recipe is a simpler version using premade buttermilk biscuit dough.
Ingredients
- 2 cans buttermilk biscuit dough (16 biscuits)
- 7 green onions
- 7 eggs, hard boiled
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup fresh dill
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F or 180°C.
- Peel and chop the hard boiled eggs. Chop the dill and green onions. Throw the eggs, dill, and green onions into a bowl, sprinkling your preferred amount of salt and pepper. Mix well.
- Take the buttermilk biscuit dough out of the cans. Place 1 piece of dough on a flat surface and roll to flatten it into a circle.
- Place 2 tbsp of the egg mixture down the middle of the dough. Fold the dough inward over the filling, making sure it is sealed. It should be shaped similar to a boat.
- Lay out a sheet of parchment paper on a baking pan and place the dough on the paper. Repeat with rest of the dough and egg mixture.
- Whisk 1 egg in a bowl and brush all the pirozhki with it. Sprinkle them with sesame seeds and place the baking pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Take the pirozhki out of the oven and let them cool. Serve.
